Lodging
Alderwood
Retreat is a little piece of paradise in the wilderness. At the end of
your scenic twenty minute flight over the beautiful Emerald Isle,
you’ll land on the ocean and taxi in to our private beach.
While walking along the pine-cone laden paths to your cabins you'll be
able to hear the soothing sound of our spring-fed creek as it meanders
through camp.
Main Lodge
For meals
and socializing, everyone gathers in the main cabin. With huge picture
windows facing the ocean, our home is a fantastic place to sit and
enjoy the scenery. Boats pass by on their way to and from the fishing
grounds, and occasionally a harbor seal will peek at you curiously as
you relax on the deck while Ginger grills up the day's catch.
Guest Quarters
Groups
of
four to six will enjoy the Eagle’s Nest, our guest cabin
overlooking Kupreanoff Straits. The perch atop the bluff affords you
views of whales migrating beneath your window, sea otter at play in the
waves below, and Bald Eagles keeping an eagle-eye on you
as they fly by at deck level.
Two
private rooms are available upstairs in the
Puffin Place. These rooms overlook our beach, so you’ll fall
asleep listening to the sound of the
waves breaking on the sand. The downstairs consists of a
bedroom
with a double bed and a kitchen complete with sink/running water and
small fridge. It is available for rent in June and early July
for
those who'd like to like a more "do-it-yourself" style
vacation.
Users would have access to fishing gear and kayaking
equipment
when not in use by other guests.
Banya

The
banya will
come to be one of your favorite memories of Alderwood Retreat...
After
disrobing in a spacious dressing room, you’ll step into our
cedar-lined "banya," a word from the Russian-Aleut days of
Kodiak's history. Our wood-fired sauna will
accommodate up
to
six people at a time. If a dry heat is your preference,
you’ll enjoy temperatures of around 120-160. When a
more humid heat is desired, water is poured onto the hot granite rocks
surrounding the woodstove, creating steam that can be infused with the
refreshing scent of eucalyptus. Some of our braver guests have earned
"honorary Alaskan" status by first getting a good sweat going in the
banya, then running and "taking the plunge" in our 38 degree creek!!
The crystal clear mountain spring water will cause your pores to close
tightly, sealing out and washing away the toxins released
as you sweat in the heat of the banya. This process is reputed to be
highly therapeutic, cleansing both the body and the mind, and besides,
it's just plain fun!!
