Birdwatching

There are many varieties of birds living on Kodiak. Kittiwakes and Tufted Puffins make their home in a rookery on the small island that's visible from our lodge. Cormorants and Black Oystercatchers also live on the rock bluffs that border the bay.

Bald Eagles frequent the tree just outside our living room window. They like to keep an eye on our beach so as to clean up any scraps left from cleaning the day's catch. We've nick-named the pair that nests on the mountainside: George & Martha.

If you're a birdwatcher, bring your binocs and your camera gear! More than 200 different species of birds have been seen in Kodiak and the surrounding islands. You may see Golden-Crowned Sparrows, Wilson's Warblers, Winter Wrens, Pine Grosbeaks, the Common Snipe, Red-Necked Phalaropes, Mergansers, the Common Loon, and are almost guaranteed to see the Black-Capped Chickadee.Kodiak is a birder's paradise!

We truly enjoyed our visit here…the fishing, whaling and kayaking. We hope for a return trip. Thanks for everything.

We had a great time w/you and all that God has created for us to enjoy.
