Kodiak Brown Bear can grow quite large, as these footprints show!

Bear Viewing
Although many visitors seem to assume that they'll see Kodiak brown bear around every corner, these beautiful bruins tend to avoid humans in most cases.  Since our eco-lodge is located in the wilderness on Kodiak Island, we occasionally have the opportunity to watch these beautiful bruins as they wander through our grounds. If seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural environment is something your group would like to  experience, we strongly encourage you to contact one of the air charters listed at the bottom of this page to arrange a bear viewing tour of your own...New to our offerings for 2010, we invite our guests to contribute to the Kodiak Brown Bear Trust, a local conservation project that facilitates protecting bear and their habitat.

Flightseeing
The floatplane ride out to the lodge will give you a bird's-eye view of our beautiful island. Any one of the air charters listed below can extend the journey to show you more of the "Emerald Isle" and several also offer bear viewing tours.   Flightseeing and bear viewing are easily incorporated into your transportation out to our eco-lodge at an additional cost.

Thank you for the
best four days I’ve experienced in years.

Never get between a sow and her cub. Kodiak bears are rarely interested in humans unless they feel threatened.

Your retreat provided much restoration for my soul….

Alderwood Retreat can only be reached by boat or floatplane. It's a great way to see the island.
